I love working at Interwest. It is really exciting to see how fast we have grown. If I could make a living fishing fulltime I would do it, but I can’t so this is the next best thing.

Curt is thinking: “I wonder how I can change the mast angle to create a better sail profile to maximize forward thrust given the light air conditions?” Carly is thinking: “I hope mom get’s this picture because I look really cute.” Working for Interwest allows me the opportunity to share time with my family – we work hard but understand that there is more to life than what you do for a living.

I do what I do because I like colored markers and its fun to write all over the plans. I enjoy finding answers to people's code questions and working with architects and engineers.

I enjoy helping people through the building permit process and working with other employees who share this passion.

The aspect of structural engineering I find the most rewarding to see one of my projects get constructed. I find it very gratifying to watch something that I have created on paper become a reality and get constructed.

Bill Rodgers

Bill Rodgers

I’ve always enjoyed structural engineering, watching ideas grow into real, tangible objects. In a similar, but much deeper way, my wife Katie and I love watching and guiding our kids grow into little people. At the end of the day, my family is my life and everything I do is to enhance their lives. Interwest, with its flexible, family-friendly environment is one of those rare organizations that make professional and personal lives complimentary, not competitive.

Here I am about to leave for my next inspection in my Interwest standard issue Shelby Cobra. I sure love this job.

Ron Walker

At Interwest, my job is to meet with potential clients and to convince them to use Interwest for services such as plan review services, building inspection and where possible full services. Several meetings may be necessary before a contract is obtained for Interwest. After getting a contract, client maintenance meetings are held to make sure Interwest is doing things the way the client wants things done. This motivates me to maintain contact with our clients to make sure they are satisfied with Interwest.  I work for Interwest because the job closely relates to the work I did for thirty plus years with the lumber industry in the seven southwestern states as well as the work I did as a building official in Michigan.  My wife Lorraine served as my secretary for all those years with the lumber industry. Our reward for her and I was a Mediterranean Cruise to Italy, Croatia and France, the picture was taken on the Cruise.  I always considered my career with the lumber industry to be the best job anyone could ever have had, that is until I joined Interwest. I have found Interwest to be a superb company to work for, and the job I have is the best anyone could ask for.  I believe Interwest has the best staff of any company in this business.  I doubt there are many other companies, if any, that rewards their employees with a Family Retreat such as the one coming up at Squaw Creek Resort Lake Tahoe.

It’s pretty simple why I do what I do. I like to see things get done that improve people’s quality of life. I enjoy working at Interwest because of the great people and because there is a sense of purpose in what we do. I also enjoy the challenges of getting to the best overall solution to problems resulting in the best overall project.

Interwest has a work atmosphere that encourages creativity and innovation. Only the best are hired and I only want to work with the very best. I have a personal commitment that there has to be a better way! Transportation Programming/Finance is exciting and fun. How else can "I" receive reimbursements for millions of dollars from state and federal agencies? I enjoy transportation programming and capital improvement delivery because it is always challenging, and dynamic. I can't stand to be bored for a single minute.

Working at Interwest is great because my position affords me the opportunity to positively influence so many important areas. There is a real sense of purpose behind storm water compliance and a belief that my position enables those I encounter to be aware of the seriousness aspects of getting it right prior to regulatory correction if necessary. The best part of doing what I do is working with my fellow inspectors, (both storm water and construction) learning and developing new ways to make positive results out of the relationships within the development and residential community towards the ultimate goal of storm water compliance.

I like working at Interwest because of the many challenges, but I love what I do because of the people. The best part of my job is not knowing what will happen each day. Being a construction inspector is the best career there is.

Les Chapman

Working in Construction as an inspector is my career because all NFL, MVP Quarterback dating supermodel positions were filled. The Company philosophy and environment fits my character perfectly so working here is great. My motivation comes from striving to continuously improve myself and to reach and maintain the level of expertise and professionalism of my teammates. I love inspection services because of the dynamic environment and the challenge of solving problems.

I like working at Interwest because of the family environment as well as I have the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals. I enjoy working outside and being able to work with all the different agencies to improve better ways to design/build and to help develop infrastructure for the community. During my free time, I like to go camping and ride at the race track

I believe that if you enjoy what you do, don’t stop, so I haven’t. I have been given some incredible opportunities throughout my career and I never turn down an opportunity to learn something new. The #1 reason I work at Interwest is the people. My co-workers in my department are not just co-workers to me, we’re family. They have become my friends and I know I can count on them even outside of work. Interwest has given me a great opportunity to learn new job skills as well as utilize the skills I came here with. I’m motivated in my job because I enjoy the feeling of being needed and being able to help others do a great job. The variety of tasks also motivates me to work hard every day. In our department we are always able to see the lighter side of things and have fun. If you can’t have fun at work, why bother coming in? It’s nice to know that women do have a place in this industry.

John Pumphey

John Pumphrey

I work in construction because the CEO Position was already filled and they needed their defensive line strengthened. I am motivated by the “personalities” I am asked to work with in the field, and no 2 situations are ever the same which perpetuates the challenge to my skill sets on a daily basis. I like the fact that my job is 10% technical, 90% people skills and the challenge of convincing people that doing the right thing is the only way to go!

Phil Serrantino

A calming force to be reckoned with. My support staff is second to none at Interwest! I enjoy developing a professional attitude among my colleagues and being a vital link between design and construction. It’s great to have a forty year career filled with successes.

Throughout my life I've searched out my path to find what fits my personality. I work for Interwest because it fits how I operate by allowing me to be independent, flexible and to use my skills without having to fit within a box, while working with others that know how to work hard but laugh at every opportunity. The Interwest journey has been another adventure in my life.

I was fortunate to have worked as a GIS intern while attending college, so I was well aware of its use as an analytical tool. I enjoy working in the GIS department because being a science geek is the norm (sorry GIS folks, but you know it’s true). If I have a specific challenge in relation to a project, I have a talented and dynamic group of individuals that I can refer to. Not a week goes by, where I haven’t learned something new.  It’s exciting to see a how all departments incorporate and use GIS technology, whether they know it or not – whether it’s a simple City map or tabular data or whether we can help solve another analytical problem – we embrace the challenge in finding a solution. I think that’s true of all of us, from the GIS interns to our Project Manager or our Project Director.

I work in GIS because it is such a great tool to solve problems. We use it every day to do analysis or create maps that gives people the answers they need. Interwest is an excellent company to work for because of the variety of clients that can take advantage of our services. What motivates me about my carrier is that it’s ever evolving; I regularly get to learn new ways to apply GIS technology to different business solutions.

The Interwest staff and my department colleagues far exceed my expectations of a positive work environment, this through forward thinking of management staff to progress our discipline, in the encouragement of continued education and networking with colleagues in my field, also the given confidence and support throughout the work I have done and products I have produced.

James Panis

I have enjoyed working for Interwest since the day I started in Jan 2006 for numerous reasons. A huge reason is the co-workers & bosses that give me an opportunity to learn a lot in multiple departments: Public Works Development Services, Drainage, Maintenance & now GIS all in the City of Elk Grove, and made it enjoyable at the same time. We all know we spend a lot of hours working together and it’s a great experience when we make it fun, cross training or at least try our best to give each other a hand/answer to whatever the situation maybe (team work) at the same time being professional.

I also love what I do in the GIS department. GIS is like art – which I have a passion for and science that deals with history – which I feel so appreciative of. I can't explain how exciting it is to produce maps for various departments.  We often develop maps from only basic set of requirements.  The end result can be such a powerful tool to display a message or to demonstrate a point in a meeting.  It is truly exciting to see how a map can be such a powerful tool for communication.

I work for Interwest because of the great work environment. Everyone has an amazing attitude & good perception.  But secretly, the real reason is the awesome Interwest Retreat every year.Happy FaceI support our IT department because it’s what I like to do. Technology shouldn’t be something people are afraid of; and my job is to help users understand that. Helping people with technology and finishing a project motivates me. Figuring out the reason why something broke, and then fixing it, gives me great motivation and satisfaction. I love the dynamic change in technology. I like learning new ways of improving efficiency and ease-of-use. With this career, I always have access to the latest & greatest.  My work never gets boring because there will always be something groundbreaking that can revolutionize the workforce.

I chose to work in IT because it is challenging and it’s not a job that is repetitive. I work at Interwest because of its pleasant environment. Interwest employees are friendly, courteous, and are always willing to help. The upper management also takes good care of their employees. I’m motivated by the challenges of IT problems and my co-workers. I enjoy working in IT because I am essentially helping people solve their computer/software problems. Another reason why I chose IT is because of my fascination with Technology.

Andrew Camero

Andrew Camero

I work as an IT Tech because it is a great opportunity to get experience for my chosen career as an Information Systems Manager. I love the opportunity to help others in a field I enjoy. I work for Interwest because out of the handful of internships for college students Interwest stood out from the rest as a great company that I wanted to become a part of. I’ve always been motivated by the desire to do a good job at whatever position I’m in. It just happens to make it easier for me that I love my job and my chosen career path.

Nicole Guttridge

Nicole Guttridge

I love what I do because I like a good challenge. Watching how people process things and then trying to figure out a way to increase their efficiencies is a challenge to me and I enjoy working with people and computers. I didn't really know much about Interwest when they hired me. Since then I've learned that they are a charismatic group of people who all like their jobs, but also have fascinating lives outside of the office. I really enjoy the freedom to come up with ideas and everyone's willingness to try new things. Every single person is a problem solver and it amazes me what we can do as a group.  I hate wasting time, so I'm always looking for ways to better communicate using technology and taking everyday tasks and finding ways to use technology to make more time for ourselves. Working as the IT Manager gives me the opportunity to help and teach people everyday.

Old School Training + New Ideas = Excellent Results for our Clients. The uniqueness of Interwests’ approach to client services matched very well with my unique and varied interests and experience. From large projects to individual client attention, from design to construction management, to park planning and design, to mega-project management or maintenance rehabilitation I never get bored with the workload repetition other companies place on their employees. And only a few late nights so I get to see my family too!
